Catches & tecnique for fly fishing the Dolomites
Brown trout are renowned for their striking appearance and vibrant red spots, offering a rewarding target for fly fishermen in the pristine waters of the Alps. Flies, sedges, and terrestrial imitations mimic natural insects falling from the riverbanks' trees and they are the best flies for these spots.
The best equipment for navigating the dense foliage and narrow streams is a lightweight, 8-9ft rod with a 3wt line, enabling precise, unobtrusive casting.
The optimal fishing season is from June to September when the snowmelt has subsided and warmer temperatures provide ideal conditions for active trout and abundant hatches.
